People have a tendency to only focus on the way things are today, without thinking about how they became the way that they did. Taking a step back and looking at the changes and continuities throughout our city's history allows us to look at out successes and failures. We are able to see what worked culturally, politically, and economically along with what didn't, giving us the opportunity to improve. The only way for a city to be prosperous is to understand past mistakes and realize the need for change in order to progress. With this being said, as a city, it is also important to remember our beginnings and traditions. Our roots are what hold us together as culture and makes us stand out as a city. There must be a balance between advancement and constancy to move a city toward sustainability.
